Specialised information services for science (FID)
FID working group and FID steering committee
The FID working group (AG FID) serves to exchange information and coordinate the activities of the various FIDs. Sub-working groups (U-AGs) and networks (FID networks) have been formed within the FID working group on specific topics in which Propylaeum is involved. Members of the Propylaeum project teams take on leadership roles in the sub-working groups on electronic publishing, research data, public relations and subject indexing. Propylaeum also participates in the U-AG Licensing and the FID networks History, Philologies, Semantic Technologies and VuFind.
The heads of the operating libraries Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) and Heidelberg University Library are members of the steering committee of the FID working group. The BSB is also represented on the Technology Board, which aims to promote technical co-operation between the FIDs.
Co-operation with other FIDs
The FID Ancient Studies - Propylaeum works closely with the FIDs located at the two operating libraries (Bavarian State Library: FID History, FID Musicology and FID East, Central and Southeast European Studies; Heidelberg University Library: FID Art, Photography, Design - arthistoricum.net and FID South Asia). Joint fields of work include in particular the development and operation of digital services (portals, research applications and publication services).
Binding cooperations with other FIDs exist in the areas of acquisition agreements, data exchange and joint licensing of FID licences (including FID Middle East-, North Africa- and Islamic Studies and FID Theology).
Digital services and re-use
Heidelberg University Library offers all FID-operating libraries and research institutions a comprehensive hosting service for the production and publication of e-journals with the open source software of Open Journal System (OJS). The aim is to support the FID teams through knowledge and technology transfer in the development of corresponding services and to allow them to participate in the ongoing developments in Heidelberg.
In the Propylaeum Lab, open source software and open data developed or used within the framework of Propylaeum are made available for re-use.
