The digital edition comprises the approximately 1170 letters exchanged by the classical scholar Theodor Mommsen and his wife Marie née Reimer between 1854 and 1902.

All letters - with the exception of a few copies that have only been preserved as transcripts - are provided as image digitisations. In addition, a line-by-line transcription is provided, supplemented by pop-up windows on persons and places (each accessible via its own index). Links to relevant dictionaries are provided directly in the transcription, and further notes and explanations are given in footnotes. Before using the edition, please consult the edition guidelines.

At present, the digital edition can still be regarded as a work in progress. The functions are fully available, but technical and palaeographic checks are still being carried out. The transcriptions are therefore not yet ready for citation.
